New interview where Jacob Artist mentions The Philosophers.
DA MAN: You also will star in The Philosophers. Can you tell us more about the movie?
Jacob Artist: I think people are really going to enjoy it! It’s a very fresh and cool take on the whole apocalypse genre. You get to chronicle everything through 20 philosophy students and see how this adventure plays out with such an interesting group dynamic. Conceptually I think it separates itself as not just another teen sci-fi/fantasy movie.
DA MAN: What was shooting in Indonesia like? Was that your first time working outside the US?
Jacob Artist: It was my first time ever overseas and it was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Just being in a brand new country with 20 other kids my age and experiencing that all together for the first time was so special. Those are the memories I’ll be telling my grandkids about.
Any UK release information? It looks brilliant! Thank you for this blog!
Not at the moment, unfortunately. But we’ll be sure to post information on any release dates we learn. :)
This movie sounds beyond amazing! I love the idea so badly but fear it will follow "The Hunger Games" and "Battle Royal" is path, with just young people killing each other for the joy of the audience. I hope it lives up to its tittle!!! (and we need more philosophical themed movies)
The movie was being filmed before The Hunger Games movie came out, so I don’t think they were aiming for that, at least. I also don’t think they’re being forced to really kill each other, I think it takes place in the classroom. It’s more of a mind game.

- The Philosophers (2013)
Hello, I just watched the trailer and it's seems interesting! I come from Indonesia and I would like to know will they release it here (since I see SCTV labeled on the trailer but idk what's their connection with this movie)? Thank you!
Back when they were filming it in Indonesia (in 2011), they said they had hopes of releasing it there, but there hasn’t been anything said recently. It’s probably still in their plans though.
I am the wildcard
sorry if this has been asked before, but is The Philosophers an independent film or a produced by a major studio? either way, what company (or many group of small companies) produced it? (and i just want to add that i'm out-of-my-mind excited for this film!)
It’s an independent film. And Olive Branch Productions produced it.
We’re super excited too! We hope we hear about a distributor soon.
hey there! I just wanted to let you know that I followed up with the source that released the date for the Netherlands, because I work in the business here, and I was repeatedly told that there was no such release date. They've gotten the movie deal, but I was told the release date would be closer to December, or maybe even the new year.
Hi! Thanks very much for this information. :) We weren’t too sure on how legitimate those sources were, so it’s nice of you to let us know. Even if that release date isn’t the real date, it’s nice to know it’s gotten a deal and is aiming for a release date around that time, hopefully.
Is this a written for movie screenplay or was it adapted from something pre-existing?
It was written as a movie screenplay. It does seem like it’d make a good book, though, you’re not the first person to wonder about it.
